Camino de Santiago Packing List 2024

Here is a tried and tested packing list for walking the Camino de Santiago in Summer 2024

We’ve walked the Camino de Santiago French Route and Portuguese Route in hot weather so we wanted to share our Camino de Santiago Packing List for 2024.

Walking the Camino in the summertime means that you can pack less so it is ideal for people who don’t want to carry too much. A 30L backpack is a good starting point.

I brought this one from Decathlon on my most recent short Camino through the Galician countryside and it was perfect. I could bring it on Ryanair as a personal small item and it also held all of my essentials for a week of walking the camino.

If you are planning on carrying your bag along the route it is important to pack as lightly as possible. We made this mistake on our first Camino along the French Route when we brought around 8 – 9kg each. We couldn’t sustain it and ended up sending our bags along everyday for an extra cost.

Of course, if you wish to send your bag on then your packing list can be less on the frugal side. You could bring more clothes options, make-up and additional skincare.

Below is a packing list for those who would like to walk the Camino de Santiago for a week in the summer or warm and dry weather.

Note on the Camino weather and packing

Galicia is the region of Spain where all of the Camino de Santiago routes end (the last 100km) is notoriously like Irish / UK / Northern France weather. However in the summer it is hot and dry for the most part.

Make sure you check the weather before you pack! Raincoat, a backpack rain cover, proper waterproof shoes and waterproof trousers might be needed!

There are also many other things about the Camino de Santiago that surprised us!
